Finally, most of the work is done, and my new site is functioning as expected. It was quite a lot work, and I got an impression what they mean when saying, drupal has a steep learning curve...
Ok, I have to admit, drupal is not the standard tool you would use, when building such a small website. But I wanted full flexibility and it's much more fun if you could control everything and not only what plugins offer you. That flexibility is of course not for free, to really control everything a lot of knowledge and work is necessary. That's why I also rely on some tutorials and moduls
One quite hard task was the handling of images. Of course, drupal can handle images, but it can handle them in hundreds of ways, or at least it feels like that. So, which setup fits my needs, which is flexible enough but also easy to use, once set up? I decided to use a slightly modified version of galleries with views attach, which allows easy uploading to the corresponing posts, and also flexible galleries, depending on tags or categories... So the main point was, to add additional taxonomy to the photo node, and add some views using this taxonomy to generate the galleries.
So, now I have to fill this site with content, to make it worth visiting. Will be a hard task, too
I tried to start with some more photos... So check them out, and tell me what you think.
greets mike
